The world of social media is constantly changing. Each and every day there will be something new that will get us closer and closer to bigger and better new implementations of social media. Social media is so versatile and is definitely here to stay for a while. Voice search, advocacy marketing, ephemeral content and social media brand protection are just a few of the new things that were emerging when our textbook was written. Now, we have so many new technology implementations that are in the works that I can’t even wrap my mind around.

Upon entering the field of social media you will be asked the million dollar question of “What does the social media professional have that is new?

People working in the field of social media definitely have their work cut out for them when trying to come up with new ideas. They must keep the following questions in mind while doing their work:

  1. Is this technology sustainable? If so, for how long?
  2. Is this trend innovative and able to provide value?
  3. What is the overall case for investing in this tool? What is our rationale for using this tool or platform in addition to the resources we already employ?
  4. What can we do with this tool to enhance our story and content for our audiences?
  5. Do we have the investment (financially and in leadership) to move forward with this technology?

In order for social media companies and practitioners to do their work effortlessly and more smoothly it is important for them to ask and answer these question to be on the lookout for the future.

Social media is always changing and evolving and I definitely don’t see it going anywhere anytime soon.
